Vane Type Mist Eliminator
Chevron Mist Eliminator • Vane Pack Separator • Baffle Plate Demister
ECOGRACE vane type mist eliminators deliver 95–99% mist removal at gas velocities up to 12 m/s — 3× higher throughput than wire mesh demisters. Also known as chevron mist eliminators, baffle type mist eliminators, or vane pack separators, these rugged inertial separators are purpose-built for fouling service, high liquid loading, slug flow, and dirty gas applications in FGD scrubbers, knockout drums, and oil & gas separators.

Vane Type Mist Eliminator Product Range
ECOGRACE manufactures three configurations of vane type mist eliminators to match your separation duty, fouling tendency, and space constraints.
How Does a Vane Type Mist Eliminator Work?
Vane type mist eliminators use inertial impaction and centrifugal force to separate liquid droplets from gas streams. As gas is forced through a series of corrugated chevron baffles, entrained droplets cannot follow the sharp directional changes and impact onto the vane blade surfaces.
Gas Entry
Mist-laden gas enters the vane mist eliminator at velocities of 3–12 m/s. The parallel corrugated vane blades create narrow channels that force the gas into a sinusoidal flow path.
Inertial Separation
At each change of direction, liquid droplets with higher inertia cannot follow the gas streamlines. They impact onto the vane blade surfaces while the lighter gas navigates around the baffles. Multiple direction changes maximize capture probability.
Drainage Pockets
Captured liquid flows into specially shaped drainage pockets (hooks) stamped into the vane blades. These pockets shield the collected liquid film from re-entrainment by the high-velocity gas stream — a critical advantage of the vane type separator.
Clean Gas Out
Separated liquid drains by gravity from the drainage pockets to the vessel sump. Clean, dry gas exits the vane mist eliminator with <0.1% liquid carryover, protecting downstream equipment from corrosion and fouling.
Vane Type vs Wire Mesh vs Fiber Bed Mist Eliminator
The vane type mist eliminator excels where wire mesh and fiber bed alternatives fall short: high gas velocity, fouling service, slug flow, and dirty gas applications. Choose the right mist eliminator based on your process conditions.

Vane Type Mist Eliminator FAQ
Common questions about vane type mist eliminators, selection criteria, installation, and performance.
What is a vane type mist eliminator?
A vane type mist eliminator (also called a chevron mist eliminator, baffle type mist eliminator, vane pack separator, or plate type mist eliminator) is a gas-liquid separator consisting of a series of corrugated metal or polymer blades arranged in parallel. Gas is forced through the channels between blades, and entrained liquid droplets are captured by inertial impaction as they cannot follow the sharp directional changes.
When should I use a vane type mist eliminator instead of wire mesh?
Choose a vane type mist eliminator over a wire mesh demister when: (1) gas velocity exceeds 5 m/s, (2) the process has fouling or scaling tendency, (3) liquid loading is high or slug flow is expected, (4) the gas contains solids or sticky particles that would plug wire mesh, or (5) the service requires frequent washdown. Vane types handle 2–3× higher gas throughput per unit area.
What is the difference between single-pocket and double-pocket vane blades?
Single-pocket vane blades have one drainage channel per bend, suitable for moderate liquid loading at gas velocities up to 10 m/s. Double-pocket blades feature two drainage hooks per bend, providing superior anti-re-entrainment performance at higher velocities (up to 12 m/s) and heavy liquid loading. Double-pocket designs are preferred for knockout drum and oil & gas separator applications.
Can vane mist eliminators be installed horizontally?
Yes. Vane type mist eliminators can be installed for both vertical (upward) and horizontal gas flow. Horizontal installation is common in oil and gas separators, compressor suction scrubbers, and FGD ductwork where space constraints prevent vertical arrangement. The vane blades are oriented so liquid drains downward perpendicular to the gas flow direction.
What materials are used for FGD vane mist eliminators?
FGD mist eliminators are typically manufactured from PP (polypropylene) or FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) due to the corrosive flue gas environment containing SO2, HCl, and HF. PP is most common for temperatures below 100°C. FRP is used for higher temperature service and larger structural spans. Metal vane packs (SS316L, alloy) are used in special high-temperature FGD applications.
What sizes of vane mist eliminators does ECOGRACE supply?
ECOGRACE manufactures vane type mist eliminators from 200 mm to 15,000 mm+ in any dimension. Small units are supplied as pre-assembled panels. Large FGD mist eliminators are supplied as modular sections for field assembly. Custom shapes including circular, rectangular, annular, and duct-fit configurations are available for any vessel or ductwork geometry.
